DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY
Department of Chemistry was established in 1997 along with SMIT. The department has moved forward with the opening of M.Sc in Chemistry from 2003 onwards. The department focuses on exposing the students to the latest development in the field of Chemistry and is endowed with vibrant and dynamic faculty, well qualified to impart high quality teaching. Scholarship to meritorious students of M.Sc. is awarded by SICPA India Ltd., a leading industry in Sikkim.
The department has well-equipped lab with sophisticated equipment (DST-FIST) and also has research projects (DST, AICTE, DRDO) with number of Ph.D students. Moreover it has a Society of Chemical Sciences (SCS) comprising of students and teachers. The department organizes seminar, conference, workshops, and popular lectures regularly. The primary objective of the conference is that participated students can know about recent progresses which are not covered in academics, events and hurdles encountered on the path of researches, and stages one has to cross to pursue a career in that particular subject. Researchers may also get ideas to create roadmap for upcoming projects, and explore possibilities for opening up new avenues for research. The conference will also provide an opportunity for the interaction of scientists from various disciplines of science, engineering, medicine.
